so some colleagues and i were wrong about the noynoy-mar thing being a gimmick (that noynoy would eventually say he’s backing out in deference to mar, who is more prepared to run for president).

so aquino would carry the torch for the liberal party. hmmm…

they say he has integrity and moral high ground, which is sorely lacking in politics nowadays, to lead this country out of this shit. i would’ve liked the man but his lackluster performance in congress and senate is a big factor why i would not vote for him. he has only authored 9 bills all throughout the years he stayed in senate. i think he authored a bill (while in congress) that sought to declare aug 21 as tarlac day or something. i feel he has no balls and sadly that train-wreck-in-the-making sister of his has more spunk than he does. yes, his mom was a reluctant candidate but she had a big heart that pushed her to move on and brave a dictator. noynoy is virtually unopposed in that quarter, in the sense that this election is anybody’s game—well, except for the big possibility that the administration would write a virus that would render the automated polls null and void. he has everything going for him—the magic of legacy, the popularity of his sister (whether we like it or not), the machinery of his party and other alliances.

i don’t rely on history alone in choosing a candidate. life has taught me that the offspring may not necessarily take after the parent.

nor would i count academic achievement as sole basis for choosing a candidate (which is kinda offbeat for someone who grew up in a very academic household). gilbert teodoro may have the makings of a great statesman if you look at his resume: UP college of law graduate, Bar topnotcher, masters degree from harvard school of law, state of new york bar passer, etc. etc. but marcos was also a UP college of law graduate, bar topnotcher, etc. etc. he was brilliant, yes. too brilliant that he was able to engineer something as devastating as a martial law that brought the country to its knees and has yet to rise again. he was able to enrich himself wonderfully that several administrations could not even get back what he plundered. he was a master operator that even in death his strings still exist. that, my friend, is why we should be wary of brilliant lawyers.

another big NO-NO for gibo? he’s the favorite nephew of master operator danding cojuangco and that this godfather may breathe through his kin. the biggest NO-NO? he is the candidate of devil incarnate gloria arroyo.

a rags-to-riches story is not also a very compelling reason for me to vote for somebody like manny villar. i received a white paper in my email some years ago about this man resorting to arm-twisting a top official of an institution—an institution that the world uses to gauge an economic/business environment—to get what he wants, even if it is illegal. that story is still persistent to this day, like that open secret how manny pangilinan got the pldt shares from yuchengco’s hands.

then there is this padding of a major highway and a host of other issues still unresolved.

for me, a man who tries to sound intellectual is nothing but hot air. chiz escudero is a useless trapo.

noli. ho-hummmm.

bayani. the man is practical but this country needs more than practicality on his sleeve to save this country. deep understanding of the economy and society is needed, plus a dash of political sophistication.

binay. if his fiefdom of makati can be the basis of his executive prowess, then i say we’re doomed. barricading yourself in your castle to keep the authorities from implementing the law is soooo telling.

an everyman’s man can lead the country straight into the abyss. the first three years of erap rule is enough for me to say ENOUGH!

i guess i won’t be voting at all.

i would vot for eddie gil, if he’s running.
